Free-of-Charge Equine-Assisted Sessions for Active Duty Military, Veterans, First Responders& Their Families

The “Why Behind What We Do” – Startling Statistics:

According to the 2022 American’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) –
40-44 Veterans commit suicide EVERY DAY!

Department of Defense (DOD) report released in April 2022 shows that suicide among service members is at its highest rate since 1938!!! MissionRollCall.org recently commissioned Pinkston to conduct a research survey on Americans’ attitudes regarding a range of Veteran’s Issues:

  • 53% think the government has not effectively addressed or assisted Veterans with suicide prevention
  • 60% believe Veterans deal with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) a lot more than their civilian counterparts
  • 40% say suicide ideation is a lot more common among Veterans

Mental health-related symptoms and issues that disproportionately impact veterans include:

  • Suicide
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Substance abuse disorders (SUDs)
  • Symptom of traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia

What is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

  • Develops after exposure to traumatic incidents like natural disasters, war catastrophes, or other life-threatening events
  • It can cause severe emotional anguish, mental stress, and decreased quality of life for Veterans
  • Known as the “signature wound” of the GWOT (Global War on Terror).
  • 11-20 out of every 100 Veterans who served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom experience PTSD

The VA reports that among veteran suicide decedents, the percentage with recent Veterans Health Administration (VHA) encounters increased from 26.2% in 2001 to 39.7% in 2020. It means that veterans committing suicide over that period were more likely to have received VHA health care. There’s plenty of room for everyday Americans to get involved because, as these statistics make very clear, the current status quo is not enough for our Veterans.

THE HEART OF HHH

Founded in 2010 by Jennifer O’Neill (“Jen”), Hope & Healing at Hillenglade (HHH) was a vision born deep in her heart, and carried to fruition with a lot of hard work and endless energy that launched her mission to “give back.” Predicated on sixty years of breeding, showing, overall experience and hard-won knowledge of the wonder of horses, she crafted her Certified Equine-Therapy Curriculum.

Establishing top-notch standards for the HHH Team and Wellness Programs, creating the HHH Certified Curriculum as well as the HHH Franchise concept, designing and building the HHH “For-Profit” support of her 501(c)3 “non-profit” endeavors, raising funds and private financial donations along with volunteer efforts, establishing and directing the HHH Equine Rescue & Rehabilitation/Retirement Program, and literally leading every Equine Session given since 2010 (thus far having served over 4,000 individuals), HHH has well earned its respected position in serving those who sacrificed so much for our freedom and safety!!!

When “Jen” says, “Thank you for your service,” she opens the doors to her farm, her heart, and offers a welcoming, unconditional hug to all – while giving ALL the Glory to God. She is always thanking her exceptional HHH Team to which she accredits HHH’s daily success!!! . . . WE ALL CAN’T WAIT TO SERVE YOU AND YOURS.

WE MUST STEPUP AND HELP!!!

“Without the proper support from their community and the government, many Veterans turn to harmful coping mechanisms and are more likely to die by suicide. Positive relationships can significantly impact mental and physical health, yet with each generation – fewer people have connections to Veterans. It is important to find ways to bridge this gap, whether through volunteer opportunities for young people, educational initiatives, or other cross-generational programs,” (www.missionrollcall.org). Which is why we offer our HHH Empowerment Transition Program, all ages HHH Volunteer Opportunities, as well as group and individual sessions – HHH is that safe place where our Heroes as well as their families can heal and be reassured that they are supported, and that their immense sacrifices are recognized and honored.

To further turn the tide on this, we need to take a holistic approach to mental health care. To that end, Equine-Assisted Programs have been proven since the 1980s to curb the impact of PTSD, depression, anxiety – which is why WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT IN HELPING US OFFERING FREE-OF-CHARGE HHH Equine-Assisted Sessions to our Heroes and their families.
