Handsome’s Story

After breeding for over 40 years, Handsome is the last horse raised by Jennifer O’Neill – actress, author, Covergirl and founder of HHH. From the beginning, Handsome was surrounded by love, care and advanced training. He comes from a strong line of champion hunter-jumpers, and spent years competing with Jen in the “A” circuit as she prepared him for sale. Unfortunately, Handsome dislocated his shoulder in the field as a 4yr old, but once healed, Jen again attempted to place him where he could continue his show career. Each time, he was returned due to some challenging behavior on his part.

The final time Handsome came home after a trial sale, Jen realized that he had a deep fear of jumping due to his shoulder injury, so she told him that he would never have to jump or compete again, and that he was “home for good.” Something changed. Handsome relaxed. He settled. He seemed to understand that he had a new role as an Equine-Assisted-Therapy horse at HHH. Today, Handsome remains one of the most important horses at the farm, and everyone’s favorite star of our 4-legged teammates for healing our deepest hurts. He is compassionate, highly alert, and a bit of a scamp.

Personality & Strengths

Handsome has a lot of spirit and he shows it: Bold, expressive, intelligent and deeply aware of the people’s needs around him. Although never dangerous, he will test one while evaluating the individual’s leadership qualities . . . Once trust is established, the bond is beyond beautiful. The moment Handsome accepts you as his compassionate, confident leader, the partnership becomes dependable and exceptionally rewarding. There will never be another horse like him at HHH: Strong and deeply loyal!

Handsome’s Role at HHH

Handsome participates in a variety of activities at HHH that support his growth, confidence, and partnership skills. His work includes groundwork sessions, grooming, walking exercises, and at-liberty activities that strengthen communication and trust. In addition, Handsome is involved in training and leadership development, helping him build positive behaviors while fostering a strong connection with his handlers.
